Month: June 2017

Bro Andrew Jock Keenan, Bro Michael Forster, and Bro Andrew Rathbone, avid rugby fanatics in their own right and member of Enderby Lodge have assisted in the formation of the Leicestershire & Rutland Rugby Team.  After months of planning, the day finally arrived when on a damp summers night at the end of August a group of Brethren from across the Province made history by turning up for the Leicestershire and Rutland Light Blues Rugby Club first training night in preparation for the season ahead.

The training session was organised by Director of Rugby Bro Andrew “Jock” Keenan (Enderby Lodge 5061) who commented “It was a great turn out especially with it being during the school holidays, the training session was very light in nature and really involved a ‘getting to know you’ session followed by a 45 minutes game of Rugby 7s which was enjoyed by all.  We want to encourage as many Brethren in the Province to get involved with this Rugby Club, so if you are interested please contact me.  It will be a great way of meeting new friends and players on a very social basis”.

W Bro Daniel Quelch (Rothley Temple Lodge 7801) who is the Light Blues Rugby Club Secretary, also attended this training session, he commented “the Light Blues Rugby Club had been founded in April 2016 when a founding committee had been formed (see below), plans are now at an advanced stage with a formal application pending approval with the Leicestershire Rugby Union (“LRU”), we expect the club to be formally constituted early September 2016 well before our first game”.

He went on to say “Everyone in the Light Blues Committee had contributed something in true Masonic spirit from seeking a ground to designing the new kit. W Bro Daniel also added that thanks really must go to the Vipers Rugby Club for making us so welcome and allowing this to be our home ground and for supporting our application for LRU Membership by Proposing us, this was seconded by Aylestone Athletic RFC.

Bro Samuel Harris ( Lodge and Number) Light Blues Rugby Chairman of confirmed “We’re currently trying to spread the message about Light Blues Rugby Club.  We are interested in encouranging both young and old masons to take part.  So please get in touch and get your boots polished ready for fun filled season with fixtures against locals side and other Provinces across the Country”.
